Conservatives have focused on building power, not only on specific victories; they developed a deeply-interconnected infrastructure, with its disparate parts and unlikely allies held together by long-term strategic goals – in particular, governing power – and a conservative ideology, along with more immediate incentives and rewards for many of the conservatives’ constituencies. In comparison there is no similarly cohesive, progressive movement in this country with a shared agenda, strategic goals, and a shared ideology.
