Milena Velis

Curriculum Strategist

Milena has worked for over 15 years with movements seeking to be heard, build skills and build power. Previously, she was the Training Director at LeftRoots, a national project supporting organizers in the economic, racial, and environmental justice sectors to develop liberatory strategy and develop themselves as strategists. Before that, she was a longtime builder of the Media Mobilizing Project in Philadelphia (now the Movement Alliance Project), where she worked to strengthen local movements through alliance building, political education and collaborative storytelling. Milena grew up hearing stories about her family’s experience as part of a movement that elected the world’s first socialist president in Chile, and the subsequent US-backed dictatorship that made her country a laboratory for neoliberalism. Her commitment to justice is to do her part in the global fight for a world that puts people and the planet before profit. When not at work you’re likely to find her in Philadelphia making art, gardening, or reading sci-fi.
