Ratema Uch (she/her) has roots in Oakland, CA where she was born and raised and where she received her initial political education as a high school youth through organizations like AYPAL and Forward Together’s former youth program, SAFIRE. She continued organizing at UC Berkeley – mentoring middle school students in San Pablo, CA and hosting events to increase college access to underrepresented API youth. Ratema comes to GPP with 7 years of operations experience at Center for Story-based Strategy (CSS). She thanks those who mentored her during her youth, her UC Berkeley organizing friends/comrades, and the leaders from CSS who have helped her become the person she is today. The passion for her work is rooted in all of the complexities that come with her Cambodian American identity and her connection to her family as a daughter of refugees. Through her work in Operations, Ratema prioritizes care and intentionality in order to create a safe and loving environment for GPP staff and community.
